Three Thousand Miles from Home

I find myself in an old bookstore where the owner is dressed in a razor-pleated skirt and black cardigan. She sits behind a desk cutting haiku from chapbooks recently acquired. She says she’s making cards to sell. When I tell her I’m the author of one of the books she’s destroying, her ears turn pink.
