Re “new” and “reprints” below: New works are those that are published here in KYSO Flash for the first time anywhere. Reprints (also referred to sometimes as “republications”) are those which were previously published elsewhere, whether online, in print, or as spoken-word performances in the theatre.

Please note that we consider works that appear online, whether on author and artist websites, on public-access sites such as Fictionaut, and on social media such as Facebook, to have been published already. After all, they may have been viewed and shared by hundreds or even thousands of folks.



About VIDA: Women in Literary Arts

Issue 12 (Summer 2019):

  1. Content: The total of 206 works published here includes 146 written texts, that is, 105 new works (72%) and 41 reprints (28%). Plus 60 visual artworks, 16 of which are new and published here for the first time anywhere; titles appear just below this numbered list.

  2. Submissions: We considered a total of 517 works, including new and previously published (representing a total of 80 submissions), and we accepted 126 new works, or 24% of the total number of works considered.

  3. VIDA: KF-12 contains works by a total of 74 contributors: 43 women (58.5%), 1 non-binary person (1.5%), and 30 men (40%). Of that total, 30 contributors (40%) are new to KYSO Flash. Of the new contributors, 16 are women and one identifies as non-binary.

New artworks in KF-12 include: [fire poppies] by Pamela A. Babusci; Legacy’s Sunset by Roy Beckemeyer; A passing squall and This bird stood and stared by George Digalakis and Gary S. Rosin; Paradise Lost: Fire by MaRco Elliott; Meiwa the kumquat and [soft cheeks] by Clare MacQueen; Choreographic Notes by Elizabeth Streb; and eight of the photographs in the e-Collection White Blossoms by Susan Tekulve.



Issue 11 (Spring 2019):

  1. Content: The total of 174 works includes 130 written texts—96 new works (or 74%) and 34 reprints (26%)—plus 44 visual artworks, four of which are published here for the first time anywhere (haiga by Gary S. Rosin; haiga by George Digalakis and Gary S. Rosin; and two drawings by Melinda Giordano).

  2. Submissions: We considered a total of 345 works by 95 folks (representing 111 submissions), and accepted 96 works (or 28% of the total submitted) by 54 contributors (or 57% of the total).

  3. VIDA: KF-11 contains works by a total of 71 contributors: 42 women (59%) and 29 men (41%). Of that total, 34 contributors (or 48%) are new to KYSO Flash.

Issue 10 (Fall 2018):

  1. Content: The total of 107 works includes 84 written texts—64 new works (or 76%) and 20 reprints (24%)—plus 23 visual artworks, nine of which are published here for the first time anywhere.

  2. Submissions: We considered a total of 246 works by 50 folks (representing 67 submissions), and accepted 67 works (or 27% of the total submitted) by 31 contributors.

  3. VIDA: KF-10 contains works by a total of 44 contributors: 24 women (54%) and 20 men (46%). Of the total, 18 contributors (or 41%) are new to KYSO Flash.


Issue 9 (Spring 2018):

  1. Content: The total of 134 works included 109 written texts—88 new works (or 81%) and 21 reprints (19%)—plus 25 visual artworks, five of which were published in KYSO Flash for the first time anywhere.

  2. Submissions: We considered a total of 299 works by 56 folks (representing 72 submissions), and accepted 82 works (or 27% of the total submitted) by 42 contributors.

  3. VIDA: KF-9 contained works by a total of 56 contributors: 27 women (48%) and 29 men (52%). Of the total, 22 contributors (or 39%) were new to KYSO Flash.

Issue 8 (August 2017):

  1. Content: The total of 117 works included 113 written texts—79 new works (or 70%) that were published first in KYSO Flash, and 34 reprints (30%)—plus four works of visual art, all of which were first published elsewhere.

  2. Submissions: We considered a total of 359 works by 93 folks (representing 116 submissions), and accepted 79 works (or 22% of the total submitted) by 46 contributors.

  3. VIDA: KF-8 contained works by a total of 65 contributors: 32 women (49.2%) and 33 men (50.8%). Of the total, 37 contributors (or 57%) were new to KYSO Flash.



Issue 7 (Spring 2017):

  1. Content: The total of 52 works included 44 written texts—40 of which were new works published first in KYSO Flash—and 8 works of visual art, seven of which were first published elsewhere.

  2. VIDA: KF-7 contained works by 32 contributors: 16 women (50%) and 16 men (50%). Of the total, 12 contributors (or 37.5%) were new to KYSO Flash.

Issue 6 (Fall 2016):

  1. Content: The total of 120 works included 108 written texts—98 of which (or about 91%) were new and published first in KYSO Flash—and 12 works of visual art, one of which was new and published here for the first time anywhere (thank you, Janne Karlsson!).

  2. VIDA: KF-6 contained works by 75 contributors: 43 women (57%) and 32 men (43%). Of the total, 49 contributors (or 65%) were new to KYSO Flash.


Issue 5 (Spring 2016):

  1. Content: The total of 111 works included 91 written texts—64 of which (70%) were new and published first in KYSO Flash—and 20 works of visual art, all of which first appeared elsewhere online.

  2. VIDA: KF-5 contained works by 52 contributors: 24 women (46%) and 28 men (54%). Of the total, 34 contributors (or 65%) were new to KYSO Flash.

Issue 4 (Fall 2015):

  1. Content: The total of 93 works included 63 written texts—41 of which (about 65%) were new and first published in KYSO Flash—and 30 artworks, the majority of which first appeared elsewhere online.

  2. VIDA: KF-4 contained works by 41 authors and artists: 21 women (51%) and 20 men (49%). Of the total, 27 contributors (or 66%) were new to KYSO Flash.


Issue 3 (Spring 2015):

  1. Content: The total of 110 works included 78 that were new and first published in KYSO Flash (73% of the total) and 32 reprints (27%).

  2. VIDA: KF-3 contained works by 46 authors and artists: 20 women (44%) and 26 men (56%). Of the total, 27 contributors (or 59%) were new to KYSO Flash.

Issue 2 (Winter 2015):

  1. Content: The total of 170 works included 87 that were new and first published in KYSO Flash (51% of the total) and 83 reprints (49%).

  2. VIDA: KF-2 contained works by 58 authors and artists: 26 women (45%) and 32 men (55%). Of the total, 52 contributors (or 90%) were new to KYSO Flash.


Issue 1 (Fall 2014):

  1. Content: The total of 134 works included 88 that were new (66% of the total) and published first in KYSO Flash, and 46 reprints (34%).

  2. VIDA: KF-1 contained works by 53 authors and artists: 28 women (53%) and 25 men (47%).
