Today was a good day. He brought over rice and peas that his nan had made. A far cry from yesterday’s overcooked dinner which had been thrown against the wall.

is a poet and author who lives in Brighton, England. She has lots of kids but little time, and she loves to procrastinate, mainly by writing poetry. Her work appears in a variety of publications, including Haibun Today, Skylark tanka journal, Pendleton War Poetry Competition: Selected Poems 2014 Anthology, and KYSO Flash, the online journal as well as in the anthologies, State of the Art (2016) and A Trembling of Finches (2017).

Funnell’s tanka prose “Checkmate” won first place in the Tanka Society of America (TSA) Tanka Prose Contest 2015 and is republished in Issue 5 of KYSO Flash online.
