by Sheila Sondik

hospice menu
he can order whatever
he wants now

his wheelchair
motionless in the hardware aisle
Wal-Mart field trip

at the gravesite
distracted by a misspelling
engraved in granite

saying Kaddish
for a nonbeliever
his unshaded grave

after the burial we rake him over the coals

13 days dead
the first phone call
from antsy heirs

spam mailbox
a draft copy
of his grave marker

bare tangled branches
sorting out
his affairs

poplars
shred the sky
his father’s secrets
